Michael Hobmeier was born on 18 March 1965 in Menziken (Canton Aargau) and is a citizen of Nebikon (Canton Lucerne). After obtaining his Matura diploma, he studied electrical engineering at the ETH Zurich. He also holds a licentiate diploma (equivalent to the present-day Master's degree) in Finance and Accounting from the University of St. Gallen (HSG).

In 1993, Michael Hobmeier started work at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he became partner and Head of the Financial Services Switzerland division. Subsequently, he carried out the same function at IBM Switzerland. From 2003 to 2013, Michael Hobmeier was employed by Valiant Bank AG – first as a member of Group Management, and from 2005 as CEO. Since 2014, he has been Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the startup financing platform "Verve Capital Partners". He has been on the Board of Directors of Migros Bank since 2018.

Michael Hobmeier has been a member of the Foundation Board of Swiss Air-Rescue Rega since 2007 and has chaired the Finance Commission for many years. He took over the position of Chairman of the Foundation Board on 1 January 2019.

Michael Hobmeier is married and lives in Bäch, Canton Schwyz.
