Philipp Simmen is the Head of the Helicopter Operations division. He is responsible for both the Helicopter Operations Center and the 14 Rega helicopter bases situated throughout Switzerland. In addition, he is in charge of the Continuing Airworthiness Management Helicopters, Partner Training and Ground OPS Helicopters teams.
Curriculum vitae, Philipp Simmen
Philipp Simmen was born on 27 August 1978. After completing his apprenticeship as a machine mechanic, he trained to become a professional pilot and subsequently worked as a pilot for various Swiss companies.
In 2004, Philipp Simmen moved to Rega, where he spent 13 years flying missions with the Challenger CL-604 ambulance jet, from 2016 as pilot in command. From 2008 to 2017, he served as Deputy Nominated Person Flight Operations and thus also Deputy Chief Pilot Jet. In this function, he was responsible for all the technical and personnel issues relating to Rega’s ambulance jet missions. Parallel to working at Rega, he studied for a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in International Management.
Between 2013 and 2017, Philipp Simmen headed the project to replace the three Rega ambulance jets, which was successfully brought to completion with three new jets joining the fleet. In 2018/2019, he was in charge of selling Rega’s decommissioned lowland fleet of EC145 helicopters. In addition, from 2007 to 2016, he acted as employee representative for the Rega pension fund. In total, Philipp Simmen has completed over 5,000 flying hours as a jet pilot on various aircraft types and as a helicopter pilot with a private pilot’s licence.
On 1 January 2021, Philipp Simmen was appointed a member of the Management Board and Head of Helicopter Operations at Rega.
Philipp Simmen is married, has two children, and lives with his family in the vicinity of Zurich Airport.
