As Medical Director, Roland Albrecht bears the overall responsibility for all medical aspects of Rega’s activities. This encompasses both the primary and secondary missions by helicopter and the international repatriation operations.
Curriculum vitae, Prof. Roland Albrecht
Roland Albrecht was born on 16 April 1963. He is a consultant (Facharzt FMH) for anaesthesia, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine. Having studied medicine at Basel University, he worked at the cantonal hospitals in Münsterlingen, St. Gallen, Frauenfeld and Solothurn, and also spent ten years at the University Hospital Basel, ultimately as deputy head of the surgical intensive care unit. From 2005 to 2008, Roland Albrecht was deputy head of the department of anaesthesia, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine at Münsterlingen Cantonal Hospital.
Since 2008, he has held the position of Medical Director and member of the Management Board at Rega.
In addition, Roland Albrecht is a member of the Foundation Board and Medical Director of Swiss Alpine Rescue (ARS). He also belongs to various academic professional associations (FMH, SGAR, SGI, SGNOR), as well as the task force of the HEMS European Research Collaboration (HERC). Besides his activities at Rega, he works part-time as a senior consultant (Kaderarzt) at the clinic for anaesthesiology, intensive care medicine, rescue medicine and pain management at St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital.
In January 2021, the University of Bern granted him the venia docendi (authorisation to teach) for the specialist subject of emergency medicine, and in particular air rescue medicine.
As of August 1, 2023, the management of the University of Bern appointed Roland Albrecht as Titular Professor.
Roland Albrecht is married and the father of two adult daughters.
